Freedom!

Freedom at last – I was allowed down the beach this morning, the first time in two weeks and it was glorious.  Hallelujah!

The sun was shining and there were huge rock pools because a storm last week had washed a lot of the sand away and the tide was out.  With it being the weekend, everybody and their mutt was on the beach so I got to say hello to Dexter, the huge gentle Newfoundland, and a minx of a whippet called Pip.  She pinched my ball quite a few times but I’m a gentleman and let her play with it.  I was allowed a little swim and had such a good time.

My mum says I was getting stir crazy and that’s probably why I took revenge on Rudolph.  She’s kidding herself cos I loathed those antlers (even more than I hate THE CAT).

P1050523I love the beach – it’s my favourite thing.  Sure beats a quick run down the street and will keep me quiet for the rest of the day.  Now for a proper business sleep cos I’ve not had such a lot of exercise in ages.  Sweet dreams…..beach, ball, beach, Dexter, beach….zzz

Revenge on Rudolph!

The cat wouldn't allow this. Finally rebelled against wearing those embarrassing Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer antlers which I’ve endured since my first Christmas.  Out they came again this evening while Mak was visiting; I decided I’d have my revenge and get rid of them once and for all.  THE CAT would never have stood for being treated that way and I won’t either!!

See me do it!   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ei1qhmNgoGU

Taking advantage

Taking advantage

Taking advantage

My mum says I’m taking advantage of being poorly, getting away with things I’m not normally allowed to do.  Suppose she’s right about this one cos I get to be ON the bed occasionally but this is the first time I’ve jumped right IN as soon as she’s got out.  LOL.  Well, there was a nice warm patch where she’d been and I didn’t think she’d mind as I was getting on so well with THE CAT that she was actually purring!  Not that I trust her – she’s as likely to swat me as purr – so that’s why I’m keeping an eye on her even while I have a snuggle.

Patient condition check

WOW, the medicine from the vet sure has worked on my cough, not that I like stuff squirted down my throat but my mum hides the tablets in my food so I don’t notice them.  I’m sleeping well at night and only have a cough when I get up or if I get excited.

Last night my mum took me with her when she went to eat with friends at their house.  P1030037They don’t have a dog any more so love when I visit.  I got played with loads and stayed up till 1am – far beyond my usual bed time.  Mind, I’m tired today so I think I’ll send the afternoon catching up on some sleep. As long at THE CAT keeps her distance.

But I’ve never been in a kennel!

Taken to the vet this morning and diagnosed with kennel cough.  How can that be – I’ve never been in a kennel!  She said there was a lot of it about – in fact another pooch had just been told the same – and that most of the dogs in Tynemouth were in quarantine.

Which is where I am now – no beach, just surrepticious runs down the street – cos it’s a highly contagious viral disease and I haven’t to have contact with any other dogs unless they have been vaccinated against it.  Apparently it’s like whooping cough in humans.  I should be clear ten days after starting the medication, which is anti-inflammatories and antibiotics.  Plus baby cough syrup at bedtime to soothe my throat.

I’ve had an occasional cough for a few days but I had a real bad night last night, honking away and retching at all hours.  SP1050456o it was in the car and to the vet’s first thing.  At least this time she didn’t put me on the table, not at my hulking 23k.

I’ve slept most of the afternoon, having not got much overnight, and the coughing has subsided a lot.  Thrown up on the sitting room rug a couple of times but been excused as I’m not well.

It’s a pity I’m confined to barracks cos it’s been snowing and there is a lovely crisp covering.  I like snow, especially when my mum throws snowballs and they disappear.  That’s a good game.

The cough syrup is blackcurrant flavour.  Wonder if I like blackcurrants.
